Tour Kawartha’s Culinary Trail

Take your clients out for the day, touring Kawartha’s Culinary Trail, only 1.5 hours from Toronto.  Your tour guide is Shari Darling, an award winning and bestselling cookbook author and avid foodie! Shari will lead this fun-filled, educational and interactive agri-tour. 

The Kawarthas is Ontario’s best-kept culinary secret, producing world-class produce cherished by our top chefs  across Ontario.  This region boasts  an abundance of clean air, fresh water and rich farmland that flourishes with a plethora of fruits, vegetables and proteins, from apples to cranberries, sweet corn to cucumbers, beef to buffalo, honey to maple syrup and let’s not forget fresh goat cheese, to name but a few!

ITINERARY

Leaving 8:00 a.m. arriving 10:00 a.m.  This interactive tour begins in Toronto and heads north east to Peterborough.   

Peterborough Buffalo Farm 10:00 am to 11:00 am

Your tour begins at Peterborough Buffalo Farm, where you’ll discover the taste and health benefits of bison.  You’ll take a hay-wagon ride through the brush to play amongst the real buffalo.  So don’t forget your camera to take some close up photos.  As you feed the buffalo, you’ll learn about how this farm’s bison is natural, free of antibiotics and hormones.  Once back at the shop you’ll have the opportunity to taste and buy bison.  The frozen meat will be packaged in freezer bags.

Golden Pathways Retreat – 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Your next stop is Golden Pathways Retreat where you’ll enjoy homemade and local Red Fife bread, salad and lasagna made with local beef and homemade noodles from the Pasta Shop in Peterborough. You’ll have some time to stroll through the retreat’s stunning gardens set against green pastures roaming with Cora’s cows. 

 

 

 

 

 

Crosswind Goat Cheese: 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

This farm produces fresh cheese with a next to zero carbon footprint!  On this interactive tour be prepared to slip on a pair of overalls and boots to milk the goats or feed the babies.  Then you’ll head to the shop to purchase some of the farm’s 11 different fresh goat milk cheeses.

Marylynd Organics – 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm  

At Marylynd you’ll learn about organic beef, flour and grains like buckwheat, oats and rye.  But this farm is famous for its freshly stoned ground organic Red Fife Wheat, used by artisan bakers across Ontario. Red Fife wheat is a Canadian heritage product.  In 1825 David  Fife  imported a small amount of Red Fife seed to Canada and grew the wheat on his farm.  Word spread throughout Ontario about the wonderful flavour of this wheat when ground into flour for making fresh bread.  Red Fife was the first wheat to grow on the Canadian praries. 

Kawartha Country Wines 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Your last stop is an opportunity to sip wine is at our award winning fruit winery — Kawartha Country Wines — in the charming harmlet of Lakefield.   Here, you can choose to stroll Queen Street in downtown Lakefield or cozy up to the tasting bar to sample a variety of award winning fruit wines.

Back in Toronto by 7:00 pm

Schedule:

The farms on this tour will change, depending on the month and day.  Also, many of the farmers go to the farmers’ market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Sunday is the best day of the week for the tour.

Itinerary Time: 

Leaving Toronto 8:00 a.m. to Kawarthas and home by 7:00 p.m.

Pricing:

For 24 passengers (small coach bus): $1695. (HST included)

($70.62 tax included per person)

For up to 56 passengers (large coach bus): $3390. (HST included). 

($60.53 tax included per person)

(Both Packages include coach bus for day, lunch, farm tastings, Shari Darling’s speaking fee, taxes)
